Signature Verification
An important step in ballot processing is signature verification. An election official checks each signed envelope with the signature that is in the voter registration file to make sure that they match.
In some county election offices, a change in procedure has made it difficult, if not impossible for volunteer observers to watch this process. Previously, volunteers would stand directly behind the election workers, so that they can see and verify that the signatures do indeed match. Now, the volunteer election observers in these particular election offices have to sit at a distance that it is difficult to see.
Elections must be subject to public oversight to ensure public confidence in our elections and to create an environment where our officials can work without having circumstances that invite the suspicion of voter fraud.
